The Clearwater County Chamber of Commerce wants to thank all of our partners in Clearwater County for their support and efforts put into this weekend’s Community Clean Up Day. Saturday was a great ‘weather day’ and provided just enough sun to lift spirits and bring fun to the work of cleaning up. Only a small number of people came by the chamber to pick up garbage bags, but many came to participate.
The Urban Forests of Orofino (UFO) committee helped the chamber make the event a success. Under the supervision of the City of Orofino, this group is made up of volunteers from IDL, CPTPA, USFS, Orofino Public Works and Chamber of Commerce. They provided free seedlings, handouts, Smokey the Bear swag, raffled 4 decorative trees and 12 Arbor Day t-shirts, and free lunch to thank those who helped clean up Orofino and Clearwater County.
The City of Weippe and City of Pierce also organized to put collection bins and trailers in place for free trash disposal on Saturday. Organizations like the Pierce GEM Community Team and Weippe Friends of the Library were instrumental in the effort and provided free pizza lunch to those that participated. So much appreciation goes to them!
The Clearwater County Transfer Station received an enormous amount of garbage on Saturday, taking almost anything at no fee. These employees deserve a round of applause for keeping up and helping unload many trailers and truck loads of refuse.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office collected unused prescriptions as part of their efforts to the national Drug Takeback program. This service is available every day that government offices are open by drop boxes located inside the city buildings and courthouse. For more information contact them or go to www.dea.gov on the web.
Special thanks to KLER Radio AM 1300 and Jeff Jones for broadcasting live from the event each year over the past 38 years! We are so grateful for your support and contributions to advertising public service announcements too!
