The Clearwater County Chamber of Commerce held the April General Membership meeting in Weippe. The Elkhorn Tavern welcomed everyone to their establishment and Cloninger’s Market #4 Weippe provided a meal with fried chicken wings, salads, veggie trays and even cookies for dessert. Thank you to Nikki and Shawn Mattoon for letting us use your space and Jerry and Betty Cloninger for the appetizers. Director Holland began with self introductions from all in attendance including those via zoom. The Quarterly Financial report was given along with Outreach Data and event news. Reminders are going out to businesses who have not renewed yet. Please check to see if you have paid. These are due right away to avoid cancellations or missed opportunities.
New members welcomed recently are American Red Cross of Id/Mt/EOr, Whiskey Creek Builders, 6C Ridgerunners ORV Club, and JBP Cleaning Products.
Guest speaker for the meeting was Timberline Schools Principal Jason Hunter. Mr. Hunter was welcomed and presented information and updates with a flyer to take home. Mr. Hunter thanked the Innovia Foundation for the grant that helped initiate the “Leader in Me” program at Timberline. The State of Idaho is looking at implementing this program due to the success it is having. “Student leadership emphasis is foundational”, says Mr. Hunter. Career guidance, college field trips, industry career trips, local career fairs and financial literacy are some areas of focus. Recent improvements included a building addition to house 4th and 5th grades, instead of portable buildings, intervention rooms and CTE Expansion with trades education through grant funding. They also host a HERO assembly for elementary grades. The Timberline Alumni Foundation has provided scholarships, academic mini grants, athletic support, AEDs, teacher appreciation and much more. Other announcements included the opening of Deyo Reservoir for May 1st.Branch & Vines will be hosting music/food/giveaways to celebrate their 1 year Anniversary in Orofino. Watch for the posts to come. The next meeting will be in Pierce at the Gold Rush Saloon May 1st at 4pm. The Chamber hopes you will attend the annual fundraising event on May 3rd at the BW Lodge at River’s Edge Orofino to support the functions of the chamber throughout the year.
