We toured the newly opened museum and must recommend that you pay a visit to see it. The Museum is located in the lower level of the Andrew Bloom Community Center, which also houses the Elk River City Hall, Food Bank and Syringa Club. After seven years of seasonal flooding, the basement restoration has been completed. Two sump pumps have been added to avoid future issues. The Idaho Youth Challenge Academy cadets were a great help to get the project started. About a year ago, they started scraping the floors, removing debris, and began painting the walls. The all volunteer board and community members came together to finish the project. A storage container safely held all the precious museum items outside the building and through winter, while the work was done. Unveiled during Elk River Days, new displays have been added including swinging panels purchased with a grant from the Idaho State Historical Society. Historical items and memorabilia have added space to be on display throughout the lower level with a remodel done during the renovation. The added space is very well used and ready to welcome visitors. The Syringa Club also made a kind donation from the Waldrop Legacy Fund to provide a new computer, printer/scanner, and laminator to the Elk River Historical Society, for operating and maintaining the museum. The public is invited to tour the museum August 31-Sept 1 from 1-3pm or call 208 746-1141 or 208 669-2430 for appointments.
